Programme Overview
The 5 day Holiday Action Challenge and the 7 day Summit Leadership are aimed at giving 14 – 18 year olds an opportunity to get away during the school holidays and have an exciting, full on, and action-packed experience in the outdoors.
You’ll visit some amazing places, meet new people, and have a great time doing it! The Holiday Action Challenge is loaded with good times and adventure.
You don’t need to be into sport or the outdoors, the main thing you need is a willingness to “have a go”. The programme does involve physical activity each day so a moderate fitness level will help you make the most of the programme.
The Holiday Action Challenge and Marine Holiday Action Challenge courses qualify for the residential component of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Young New Zealander’s Challenge.
Possible activities on an Adventure Challenge course include:
OPC Tongariro Caving, kayaking, tramping, canoeing, abseiling, rock-climbing, high ropes course, mountain ascents, overnight expeditions and heaps more!
OPC Great Barrier Sea kayaking, sailing, rock-climbing, coasteering, abseiling, snorkelling, tramping, steep creeking, overnight expeditions and heaps more!

OPC has a ‘Challenge by Choice’ philosophy; participants will not be forced to do activities, rather they will be placed in a supportive environment and encouraged to give new things a try. This philosophy also teaches positive team building skills as it is both the instructor and the participants who encourage their team members to take up the challenge they are facing.
All courses are residential and include OPC Instruction, meals from arrival dinner to departure day lunch, accommodation from the night before the course starts to the night before the course ends, all technical equipment and any personal gear you may need to borrow (e.g. over-trousers, boots etc). Participants arrive the night before the course commencement date. Return travel to either Centre is not included in the OPC course fee. We are able to provide a pick up/dropoff service from and to the Turangi or National Park bus stations – this is an extra fee of $18.00. Also attached is return travel options to Great Barrier Island, I would coordinate the return travel.
To enrol on a course, please complete the youth application form (under Forms tab) and return it to OPC, together with your 20% deposit. Once received we will reply with further information. The balance of the course fees is due 28 days before the course starts.
We require a minimum number for our holiday courses to run; we will contact you between four and two weeks before the start date to advise this.
